He will be advertising this in the local papers.
A decision was made to slightly shorten the length of the Pickelball court so that 2 or 3 courts could be set up. I played on the shortened court last week and it appeared to be ok. One or more courts may be reserved at beginning of each session for introductory lessons for newcomers. In effect, the initial dates will be an open house. Who knows what the turn out will be as this gets going. About 15 players from “Eastman Pickleball” have expressed an interest in playing so far.

Yesterday in Rochester NY, Milly Dunfey from Eastman NH won the 2010 National Senior Games Women’s Singles Pickleball Championship for 60-64 Age bracket. She never lost a match in the double elimination tournament!
Milly beat the 3rd place finisher in opening round. She dispatched the #1 seed in the second round. Then, she won the Winners Bracket after losing the opening game. She waited for the winner of loser’s bracket. She won the finals in two straight games. Throughout, Milly was cool, calm and collected.
Milly earned Bronze Medal in Women’s Doubles on Friday.
On Saturday, Milly and Fred Dunfey got to the medal round of the Mixed Doubles and finished in Fourth Place. Fred won his 1st two singles matches late in the afternoon.
Sunday began with Fred losing to the eventual Men’s Singles winner. He then proceeded to lose to the 3rd place finisher after leading for most of the match. This was quite the run.
Then, came Milly’s stunning finale!
How do we top this?
Milly and Fred Dunfey will be travelling to Rochester, NY on Sept 30th to Oct 3, 2010 to attend the 2010 National Senior Games. They are entered to compete in Pickleball Events (mixed doubles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and singles). They will represent Eastman and the state of New Hampshire. The purpose of the trip is to experience how others play Pickleball. They hope to discover nuances of the game , refereeing techniques and how tournaments are run. If they can have fun and win a few games, they will be happy!
The games begin with two days of practice and social pool play with competitors in your age brackets. You get a chance to meet and socialize with people from all over the country. A huge part of Pickleball is the fun, synergy and excitement of being with others while enjoying this game of Pickleball. Milly will be meeting her doubles partner from Arizona, Priscilla Scott. Fred will be playing men’s doubles with Frederic Washburn, an 80 year old from the mid-west.
Milly and Fred were living in the Rochester, NY area when they first met. Both played tennis and skiied with the Huggers Ski Club. They will be visiting friends and relatives while participating in this event.
